SEDAR
System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval is the electronic system of filing Canadian disclosure documents. Developed by the CSA (Canadian Securities Administrators), SEDAR Filing came into effect January 1 1997, and is now mandatory for most public companies and mutual funds in Canada. As of September 1999, SEDAR only accepts PDF documents (Portable Document Format). PDF is a file format developed by the Adobe Corporation. PDF documents must be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
About the CDS The Canadian Securities Administrators have appointed CDS INC. ("CDS") (a subsidiary of The Canadian Depository for Securities Limited) as the filing service contractor for the SEDAR system. In that role, CDS administers and operates the system while providing assistance to the filing community.
CDS is Canada's national securities depository, clearing and settlement hub, holding $2 trillion on deposit and handling 30 million securities trades annually.
CDS is owned by major Canadian chartered banks and members of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada and The Toronto Stock Exchange Inc.
CDS is regulated by The Ontario and Quebec securities commissions and Bank of Canada, with working and reporting relationships with the Canadian Securities Administrators, other provincial securities commissions and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.
